Dissolve BAD Feelings That Hold You Back
Mar 10, 2016The Actor’s Peace Process
This works best if you do the 7 steps right now as you’re reading...
Want to dissolve a bad feeling that’s been overwhelming you?
Maybe there’s a part of you out of alignment internally...after a bad audition...?
Had a row with your agent?
Lost that very special job...?
Any questions - I’m here at this address.
Step 1: Locate the Feeling
Your feelings live inside your body. Think about the situation that is upsetting you and notice where in your body the feeling is the most powerful.
It might be your throat, your chest, your stomach, solar plexus? (these are most common). However it might be in your head or anywhere else in your body.
Step 2: Focus on it. Give the feeling attention.
Instead of moving away from the feeling, or trying to figure it out in your head, simply become aware of the physical sensation of the feeling in your body.
Step 3: Be Unconditionally Loving (or Accepting) of the feeling or the part.
This feeling is here now. It won’t be here forever (it might feel that way at the moment...but it’s already moving now...).
Just for now - as it’s here anyway, accept it - embrace it. Allow it to be here. And...then send that feeling...love.
Step 4: Focus on the Eye of Storm
Somewhere inside the feeling inside your body, there’s an area of greatest intensity.
The eye of the storm...
Put your focus on that area and stay aware to it (in an unconditionally loving or accepting way).
Breathe...
Step 5: Let the feeling Breathe
As you give the feeling this sense of love and acceptance, it may shift in some way. It might start to move - become more intense, or less intense. It might move to different parts of your body.
Stay with it until it’s over and done with. It’s a bit like an oil candle.
The fuel needs oxygen to burn, but when it’s burned out it’s over. Your attention is the oxygen and your feeling is the fuel. We never know how much fuel is in there.
So... we never know how long The Actors Peace Process will take. Sometimes seconds. Sometimes minutes.
And on very rare occasions, a bit longer...
Originally co-developed by Christian Micklesen - I’ve adapted it especially for actors.
